Notes on Joseph Fozard:
Joseph was a House Painter(Jouneyman)& decorator in Leeds,
While he was painting St Marks Church He fell and hurt His back and as he could no longer work
He was made Caretaker of St Marks Church & school,
He& His family lived in the School House.
This was some time after the birth of His Daughter Lily.
1n 1915 He was living at 38 Woodsley View, Leeds,

He was active in the St.Mark's Harriers Leeds

Their marriage certificate states that William was 27yrs old & a Capstanman
living at 93, Spencerly St, Leeds.
Lily was 20yrs & was living at 14a, Raglan Road.
The witnesses were Annie McMinn, John William Blackburn and Bertha Fozard.
Notes for LILY FOZARD:
Lilly lived with her Family who were Caretakers of St Marks School & they lived in the School House, where she went to school, and they all attended St Marks Church, Woodhouse, Leeds
During the Second World War she worked in the Post Office,
she also worked on a voluntary basis for the Labour party in Leeds.
Five years after her Son Joseph went to Australia
She and Her Family emigrated on the 5th March 1956 on the SS Strathnaver,
On her Document of Identity She was 5ft 3ins, had Hazel Eyes & Brown Hair (greying).
She suffered from bronchitis, so going to Australia was good for her health.
After her Husband Died She decided to go back to England
to live with her Sister Bertha & Brother Arthur.
She went in 1971 and came back to Aus for a short holiday
She then went back to 39, Leafield Towers, King Lane, Leeds. 7
where she had a wonderful time with her Sister Bertha.
She was very much loved by everyone who knew her
She died on Bertha's birthday 1-11-74. with her Sister at her side.
Lily was cremated on the 6th Nov 1974 at The Crematorium, Leeds, Yks,
Then her Ashes were put with the Family Grave at Meanwood Churchyard, Leeds, Yks,.

Notes for WILLIAM PETTY:
He Joined on the 20 January 1909

Petty W Corporal the 8th West Yorkshire Regiment
93 Spencely St Woodhouse lane Leeds
Mobilised in August 1914
He was drafted to the Western Front in time to take part in
The retreat from Mons
He also fought in many other important engagements in various sectors
Was severely wounded in action on the Somme in July 1916 & was invalided to hospital at Birmingham
He was discharged as medically unfit for further service in October 1917& Holds the Mons Star & general Service & Victory medals.

When he was 17yrs old he was 5ft 5ins tall, Eyes were Blue, and his hair was Dark,
His service number was 305109, he had a tattoo of a highlander on his right arm.
He served at home 20-1-1909 to 4-8-1914, then embodied home from the 5-8-1914 to 15-4-1915
Then in France in the first World War from the 16-4-1914 to 19.7.1916
He returned to England as he had been shot in the right shoulder
He served at home from the 20-7-1916 to 26-12-1917 when he was no longer physically fit for service,
He had served for 8 years 341 days.
He was described as Steady, Honest, Reliable & Trustworthy, & Worthy of all encouragement

He went to work for the L.N.W. the L.M.S. Railway, & the North Eastern Region of the British Railways for 50 years.
He started as a Porter & worked through the grades of Capstanman, Loader, Checker, Working Forman& finally
for the last 14 years as Supervisory Forman.
During the 50 years he never once was Late for Work
nor was he off Sick at anytime apart from when he broke his leg at work in 1946.
He Retired on 22nd February 1956.
Two of the addresses he lived at during that time were
209, Potternewton Lane, Leeds,
and 14, Mileshill Terrace, Leeds, 7.
We all used to go on Holidays to Reighton Gap, near Fily in Yks, every August for two weeks.
He was a very quite & Typical Yorkshire Man
He emigrated to Australia on the 5th March 1956. on the P&O Liner SS Strathnaver, with Wife Lily,
Daughter Amy, & Granddaughter Carol Hall
At that time on his Document of Identity, His height was 5ft 3ins, eyes were Blue
and Hair, what was left of it, was brown.

He came to Australia to live with his Son Joseph Petty, who lived at 9.Kiaola Rd ,Woonona, nr. Wollongong, N.S.W.
where he spent his time gardening & looking after his Birds
He died while gardening, so it was very quick.
William was buried on the 2nd March 1970 at the Independent Cemetery, Bulli, N.S.W. Australia,
in a plot he had picked out himself. He said he would have a good view from there.
